Why Is My NFT Not Showing in My Wallet?

If your NFT isn’t showing in your wallet, the purchase almost certainly succeeded — wallets display a filtered view of what you own, not the blockchain itself. Nine times out of ten the NFT is sitting safely on-chain and the wallet app simply isn’t rendering it. Here’s how to check, ordered from most to least common cause.

First: verify on the blockchain, not the app#

Open a block explorer for your chain (Etherscan for Ethereum, Solscan for Solana, Polygonscan for Polygon) and paste your wallet address — the NFT tab there shows ground truth, unfiltered. If the NFT appears on the explorer, you own it; the wallet app just isn’t showing it, and every fix below is cosmetic. If it’s genuinely not on-chain under your address, that’s a different problem — see the last section.

The common causes, in order#

  1. Spam/hidden filtering — wallets auto-hide suspicious or unverified collections. Check the wallet’s “hidden” or “spam” section; most NFTs land there by default now (a deliberate anti-phishing feature — see the spam guide).
  2. Wrong network selected — a Polygon NFT won’t appear while your wallet displays Ethereum. Switch networks in the wallet UI.
  3. Collection not auto-detected — lesser-known contracts need manual import: use “Import NFT” and paste the contract address + token ID (see finding the contract address).
  4. Pending transaction — a just-bought NFT may still be confirming; check the tx status on the explorer.
  5. Marketplace vs wallet display — OpenSea/Blur show your NFTs correctly while the wallet app lags; the marketplace reads the chain directly too.

If it’s genuinely missing on-chain#

If the explorer shows nothing under your address: verify you bought from the real collection (counterfeit NFTs are real but worthless), check whether the transaction actually succeeded, and consider whether it was moved — an unfamiliar outgoing transfer on the explorer is a red flag for a compromised wallet. The disappearance guide covers that path.

The reassuring summary: the blockchain is the source of truth, the wallet is a viewer. Display issues never mean the NFT left your possession.
